Steve Harvey: actor, father…murderer of souls

Like so many Hollywood stars, Broderick “Steve” Harvey had a long road to success, even weathering Hollywood’s right of passage: living out of a beat-up car in the ’80s.

But after misreading the results of the Miss Universe pageant, calling Asian men undateable, and poking fun of victims in the Flint water crisis -- he’s an international star worth of over $100 million. Yay celebrities!

Thankfully for him, few people are aware that he is also party to one of Hollywood’s most bonkers divorce cases, and we think it’s about time that changes.

Steve and Mary Harvey 1996-2005

The Harvey’s married at the peak of Steve’s standup comedy fame and had a baby boy just one year into their nuptials. The marriage was mostly devoid of any tabloid intrigue, and the couple agreed in court to keep the details of their 2005 divorce private.

Until 2007, when Steve remarried and Mary adopted a new hobby: poor legal choices.

First up, ex-Mrs. Harvey filed legal documents to claim that she was conned into a quickie divorce that left her high and dry. In “leaked” documents, she alleged that her lawyer had represented both parties of the divorce, and never explained why this is usually a no-no in law law land.

In Mary’s defense, Ricky Anderson acted as the family lawyer, real estate agent, talent agent, business partner, fellow shareholder, and promoter -- so that probably wasn’t the first time someone had complained to him about conflicts of interest.

When not to sign something your lawyer hands you

Mary said Anderson gave her the divorce documents just 15 minutes before meeting the judge and told her to “Hurry up and initial and sign the documents before the hearing.”

Mary also claimed that she was told she “could not legally receive more than $1,000 a month in child support payments.”

Oh Mary, if you had shared our affinity for tabloid culture you would’ve known better.

Of course, the leaked documents seem to have come from her and the result of the suit was under the same gag order as the 2005 divorce, so it was all a bit dubious.

Thankfully, there’s a perfect place for whackos with poor legal judgment to air their grievances...

The internet!

The truth comes out

In 2011, Mrs. Harvey posted three videos on YouTube describing her ex husband’s adultery, physical abuse, and greed, claiming, “He turned my son against me, had me evicted me from our house, I was thrown out...he manipulated the courts, everything against me. I woke up everything was gone.”

Steve and his attorneys went to the judge and asked for permission to breach the gag order and publicly respond to the allegations.

In February, the judge scheduled a hearing to discuss lifting the order, and as the story goes, Steve had the court summons sent to Mary with a box of chocolates and a Valentine’s Day card.

Two points for creativity, Steve. Minus five for civility.

The judge agreed to temporarily lift the gag order and Mr. Harvey’s team responded with the following bombshells:

  • Mary was paid $40k per month in support from 2005 until 2009, just a smidge over the $1,000 her 2007 claim inferred.
  • She also received a $1.5 million lump sum settlement.
  • And far from being “evicted,” Mrs. Harvey was awarded three homes in the division of assets.

Which is why, boys and girls, you should never place too much faith in leaked court documents.

Mary was ordered to take the videos down, and to continue abiding by the gag order.

Which she did...for almost two whole years.

Jail time

In 2013, Mary released a sequel to her original YouTube rant, this time about Mr. Harvey abusing their child back in 2008. She was called to court yet again, arriving without a lawyer because she “couldn’t afford one.”

The judge ruled Mary in contempt of court for repeatedly violating the gag order and sentenced her to 30 days in jail, putting her in a pretty exclusive club of people who have served time for divorce agreement violations.

Steve was publicly cleared of all abuse charges.

Mary remained quiet for an astonishing four years, bringing us to 2017.

Where’s the murder weapon?

Currently on track to win this year’s most insane legal claim, Mary is now alleging that the 2005 divorce has had lasting effects on her mental and physical health.

That’s not the crazy part.

The suit, filed by her “civil rights activist,” claims $60 million in damages including, but not limited to:

  • Torture
  • Kidnapping
  • Conspiracy against rights
  • And…..”soul murdering”

As of the publication of this article that’s the last we’ve heard of Mary. Steve and his team of attorneys have vehemently denied these “meritless, frivolous” claims, but who knows? Maybe he did murder Mary’s soul.

Contrary to what some would have you believe, you can afford a family attorney. Even without three homes and a $1.5 million in the bank. Instead of waiting 12 years for the summary destruction of your soul at the hands of your ex, give us a call today.
